About Me
Carisa Myers
BSN, MSN, IBCLC, RN
The Milk Effect was created in 2021 after having trouble with breastfeeding and limited assistance from the hospital LC when my son was born in 2020 right before the pandemic started. Here I was thinking, “I worked with moms for years at work to help them latch their baby and I took an introduction course to breastfeeding, I got this.” That was not the case when I got home with my little one. I saw a need for a lactation consultant who specializes in pumping and low milk supply after experiencing secondary low milk supply and my son having jaundice at birth. There is also a need for a lactation consultant who is also a nurse. Being a nurse can provide an added benefit for lactation services. The Milk Effect also has a herbal and essential oil product line that may help with different areas of lactating and health.
A little bit about the person behind The Milk Effect:
I am a wife and mother to a handsome almost 4-year-old son and an angel baby. I am a Neonatal Critical Care Registered Nurse/Pediatric Critical Care Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I am currently obtaining my Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate. I have been a nurse since 2015. I first began in Medical-Surgical then transferred to the NICU in 2018 where I was cross-trained in the NICU and PICU. I had my son in 2020 a week or two before the world shut down from COVID-19 and became an IBCLC in 2021 after taking the additional courses while home on maternity leave.

Statement of Personal Ethics
Carisa Myers, BSN, MSN, IBCLC, RN
I commit to endorsing the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes established by the World Health Organization (WHO). I pledge to refrain from accepting any financial contributions or gifts from entities whose objectives oppose direct breastfeeding or do not comply with the principles outlined in the International Code.
I acknowledge direct breastfeeding as the optimal and natural method of nourishing infants. I advocate for the judicious use of breastfeeding aids to address challenges for the briefest necessary duration or when faced with unavoidable separation between mother and infant. My primary aim is to safeguard and promote the breastfeeding bond, facilitate the restoration and enhancement of direct breastfeeding, and support mothers in achieving their breastfeeding objectives. I assure that my perspective on breastfeeding will not impede a mother's chosen feeding method, whether by preference or necessity.
I am dedicated to providing information on breast pumps and related equipment based on scientific research and evidence, devoid of personal biases. My objective is not to promote the marketing of breast pumps but rather to offer accurate and scientific education regarding their application, safety, and assistance in fostering the mother-baby breastfeeding connection.
I employ language and terminology consistent with the guidelines of WHO, UNICEF, and internationally recognized peer-reviewed research on childbirth and breastfeeding.
